Blackamoors are sculptures of figures of African descent, frequently created in pairs. These creations may be incorporated into small stands, torcheres, tables or candelabras with elaborate ornamentation. The 'Moor' section of the word refers to people of Berber and Arab descent, descendants from North Africa.
Blackamoors can be male or female and are commonly cast from bronze. Hand carved, hand painted blackamoors were also popular particulary in the Venetian style. Blackamoors are popular as part of an ornate interiors scheme.
