- Beware of universal laptop power supply units on sale. I know of three that have gone BANG and tripped out the house!Mine, like the others came from Hong Kong and were listed as UK suppliers..Not.! On examining the unit I found no fuse,no overload trip and very poor wiring and soldered joints.The construction was basically **** .Yes It was cheaper than a Toshiba unit but certainly not safer.A friend measured the voltage on his and said on his "it was very approximate" I have not checked this with a meter and I am not sure what laptops will tolerate in the way of over volts but his is still working ok.. I see they are now advertised at around £ 6.00 on buy it now.Be Warned.. I finally got a correct unit for £25.00 which has worked fine and does remain cool. ...read the full guide >>>
