I did, however, get lucky to stumble upon another Joan Lea Creations headvases and was able to attain some information from this source. This is a head vase (headvase) from the late 1940s to early 1950s. Joan Lea Creations are apparently not that easy to find now and this one is very unusual. This looks to be an African princess with some exaggerated features, such as the large lips and tapered head shape.
